Lawn Care in Bradenton, FL

Lawn Care Built for Bradenton Soil and Bradenton Rules

Westfall's Lawn and Pest Control has cared for Bradenton lawns since 2001. We are based here, at 2808 29th Ave E, and Bradenton is the market we know best. Most of the lawns we treat are St. Augustine, most sit on sand that drains almost too well, and all of them are subject to a set of Manatee County rules that a lot of homeowners find out about only after a neighbor mentions it.

Sandy soil holds very little. Nutrients wash through it faster than the grass can take them up, which is why a heavy feed in this county produces two weeks of dark green and then nothing, and why the state requires that granular fertilizer here be at least fifty percent slow-release. Getting a Bradenton lawn green and keeping it that way is less about how much you put down and more about the timing and the form.

Our technicians hold Florida state certification and the FDACS Limited Certification for Urban Landscape Commercial Fertilizer that county rules require of anyone applying fertilizer commercially here. That is not a marketing line. It is a legal requirement that not every truck in the neighborhood meets.

Start with a free lawn evaluation. Call (941) 231-7285 or request one online, and we will walk your property and tell you what is actually going on out there.

What Is Actually Wrong With Your Bradenton Lawn

A brown patch in a Bradenton lawn has maybe five likely causes, and they need five different responses. Treating for the wrong one costs a season. Here is how to narrow it down.

What Our Bradenton Lawn Care Program Includes

One program, one company, one bill. Your technician is the same person visit to visit, so they know what your lawn looked like last time.

Lawn fertilization on a schedule built around the Manatee County blackout dates and your soil test results, using slow-release products that meet county requirements.

Weed control, both pre-emergent applied ahead of the seasonal germination windows and post-emergent for what is already up, selected for St. Augustine so the treatment does not damage the turf.

Lawn pest control targeting chinch bugs, sod webworms, armyworms, mole crickets and grubs, applied when the pest is actually vulnerable rather than on a fixed calendar.

Lawn disease management for large patch, brown patch, gray leaf spot, dollar spot and take-all root rot, including the cultural corrections that keep them from returning.

Shrub and ornamental care covering the beds and foundation plantings, including scale, aphids, whiteflies and mealybugs.

Tree injections for palms and hardwoods that need nutrition or systemic protection delivered directly rather than through the soil.

Irrigation service so the system is actually delivering water where the lawn needs it, which is where a lot of lawn problems in this county start.

Every visit includes an inspection. The technician walks the property, notes what has changed, and adjusts the plan. You get a summary of what they found and what they did.

Commercial Lawn Care in Bradenton

The grounds are the first thing a customer, a tenant or a prospective buyer sees, and a tired landscape reads as deferred maintenance on everything else.

We handle commercial lawn and landscape care for HOA and condominium communities, apartment complexes, office parks, medical buildings, retail centers, restaurants and industrial properties throughout Bradenton. Commercial properties get a written scope, a defined visit schedule and a single point of contact, and we work to the board or property manager's reporting requirements rather than making you chase us for records.

Call (941) 231-7285 to arrange a commercial site walk and proposal.

Bradenton Neighborhoods We Service

We run Bradenton lawn routes throughout the week across downtown Bradenton and the Village of the Arts, Old Manatee, Ballard Park, Bayshore Gardens, Samoset and West Samoset, Oneco, Whitfield, Palma Sola, the Cortez Road corridor, Braden River, River Club, Tara, Heritage Harbour and the newer communities east of I-75.

Lawns in the older west and central neighborhoods tend to be established St. Augustine under heavy oak canopy, where shade and thatch are the recurring issues. Newer builds east of I-75 are usually young sod over compacted construction fill, where the problems are root depth and fire ants. Same city, different programs.

We also serve Palmetto, Ellenton, Parrish, Lakewood Ranch, Myakka City, Sarasota and the island communities from this same location.

Bradenton Lawn Care Questions, Answered

When can fertilizer be applied again in Bradenton?

October 1. Manatee County prohibits nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer on residential landscape from June 1 through September 30, so October 1 is the first legal application day. A fall feeding right after the blackout lifts is one of the most valuable applications of the year here.

Why is my St. Augustine lawn yellow in Bradenton?

Most often it is nutrient deficiency after the summer blackout, and iron or manganese deficiency specifically, which sandy alkaline soil in this area makes common. It can also be overwatering, poor drainage, or take-all root rot. The pattern tells us which. Uniform yellowing across the whole lawn points to nutrition. Irregular patches point to disease or insects.

How often should I water my lawn in Bradenton?

Under the current Modified Phase III restrictions, one day per week assigned by your address's last digit, in a single window before 4 a.m. or after 8 p.m. Even without restrictions, one deep watering a week beats frequent shallow ones. Aim for about three quarters of an inch, and water in the early morning rather than the evening so the blade is not wet overnight.

How do I know if I have chinch bugs?

Look at the sunniest, driest part of the lawn, usually near pavement. If the area stays brown after watering and the grass lifts away easily with no root resistance, suspect chinch bugs. If the color returns within a few days of watering, it was drought stress. We confirm on site before treating.

What are the small tan moths flying up when I walk my lawn?

Tropical sod webworm moths. The moths themselves do no damage, but they are laying eggs, and the caterpillars feed at night and can thin a lawn noticeably within a week. Peak season here is September through November. If you are seeing them, the lawn should be checked.

Do I need a separate company for lawn care and pest control?

No. We do both. Most Bradenton customers run one account covering the lawn program and the pest program, which means one schedule, one invoice and a technician who sees the whole property.

Do you require a contract?

No. We do not use annual contracts. Service continues because it is working.

How long until my lawn looks better?

It depends on what is wrong. Insect damage stops within days of treatment, but the grass has to grow back to fill in, which takes a few weeks in the growing season and longer in winter. Nutrient problems usually show visible improvement in two to three weeks. Root problems and fungus take a full season. We will tell you honestly which one you have at the evaluation.
